Sakes alive! Liva has hives!!

My poor little baby squirrel broke out in hives all over tonight : ( The doctor recommended Benadryl (got to CVS 10 minutes before they closed!) and told me to bring her in tomorrow. Hope she will be alright. She is my sickly little bird. Update tomorrow.

Oh goodness! Do you know what it is in reaction to?! I've struggled with weird hives last year... and still have no idea where they came from. :( Developed an allergy to penicillin when I was 21! LOL. Guess some allergies just pop up. Keep waiting for my kids to come out with some... as of yet, though, none! Thank God!

We have no idea what caused it! She was at a friends house hours before and everything she ate there was nothing she should have had a reaction to. She was tested for allergies when she was diagnosed with Asthma and was negative for everything. I have to bring her to the doctor today so maybe they will have her tested again! Poor thing. She is always sick or being diagnosed with something! As Tripletmom calls it, our "Alphebet Soup" of diagnoses just keeps getting bigger!

Good luck, let us know how she is and what the doctor says! We've had a lot of SUDDEN ONSET contact reactions to foods, so if she is allergic to any foods, she really didn't have to eat them to get the hives!

The doctor put her on Zyrtec for 5 days and said that once she stops taking it if the hives return lather, rinse, repeat. Little joke there : ) She said if they return to put her back on it for 5 days again and do this cycle for 3-4 weeks or until they are gone once she is off of it. She said not to worry until she has had them come back every time she comes off the pills for 3-4 weeks. Then I guess we test her for food allergies and do other things to figure out what is going on. I just love how medicine is such a crap shoot. Poor Olivia can't catch a break. She is so sick of being sick!

So the Benadryl I gave her last night made her really sleepy and dizzy when she woke up this morning. The doctor suggested the Zyrtec (I bought the generic) and said it wouldn't make her sleepy. Guess what it makes her sleepy and dizzy, too. Joy, I just love medication. The cure is usually worse than the disease. God I hate medication and doctors and hospitals!

Zyrtec usually does not make one sleepy, that is strange! She might be better off with Claritin. Have you let the doc know she's dizzy and sleepy on the Zyrtec?

My family is a hive factory. If I'm not on Zyrtec, I've got hives 24/7. So does the one daughter - she needs to take Zyrtec and Zantac to be able to get through a day. The other daughter and my son gets hives from contact with food they are allergic to and from sort of pressure (dermagraphism).
